Professional Statement Personal Statement
Pierre Balthazar is one of the men who started our Haitian school project. He is a native of Haiti who has lived in the United States since 1982. He comes from the region of Belle Anse/Pichon. Pierre has an Endorsement in Guidance Counseling from Andrews University along with Bachelors Degrees in French and Math. He also has received Masters Degrees from Michigan State University in Adult Education, Curriculum Instruction and Rehabilitation Counseling.
Pierre was raised within a family that was deeply committed to education as a means to improving the quality of life. Each of Pierre’s family members was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to receive a higher education. His 6 brothers and 1 sister have held accomplished positions as a physician, Haitian congressman, and university professor, as well as accomplished business professionals. Several of Pierre’s siblings now live in the United States and virtually all of them contribute in one way or another to the betterment of the village of Pichon. Pierre has dedicated his life to the people of Haiti and spends every spare minute he has telling people about the village of Pichon and attempting to garner support for the many needs there. Fund raising for the project has been accomplished largely by Pierre’s diligence over the last five years. His dedication to the project is laudable and the passion he brings to this cause will likely result in long-term hope for many people. Family is very important in the Haitian culture and Pierre has continued that tradition with his four children (two boys Carl and Jeffrey, and two girls Monique and Patricia). He is actively engaged in the process of raising his children to be vital members of society.
